Thirsty Thursdays: The best CFB tailgates in America!

On Thirsty Thursdays, we review the best parties, bars, events, tailgates, and places to spend a great night with friends as well as a few drink mixes to enjoy the evening. We say Celebrate. Recover. Repeat. and NextDay Recovery covers you in the morning no matter what you got into last night, so you only have to worry about the first part -- Celebrate.

College sports and tailgating go hand in hand. There's nothing quite like the energy and excitement of a college game day, with fans from all over coming together to cheer on their team. And, of course, no game day is complete without a good tailgate party. Here are some of the colleges with the best overall tailgates and their traditions.

  1. University of Alabama: The Crimson Tide is known for its football prowess (maybe not quite as great this year), and their tailgate game is just as strong if not stronger. The Quad, a large green space in the center of campus, is transformed into a sea of red and white tents on game day. Fans gather to grill out, play games, and socialize before heading into Bryant-Denny Stadium to cheer on the Tide... ROLL TIDE!How to plan the perfect Alabama tailgate - SoulGrown

  2. University of Mississippi: Ole Miss is home to one of the most iconic tailgating scenes in the country, known as "The Grove." The area is a sprawling 10-acre space filled with tents, tables, and even chandeliers. Fans dress up in their finest Southern attire and gather for food, drinks, and socializing before heading to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

  3. University of Georgia: The Bulldogs are known for their rowdy game day crowds, and their tailgates are no exception. Fans gather in the parking lots around Sanford Stadium for traditional Southern barbecue and cold beers. The Redcoat Band makes an appearance, leading the crowd in cheers and songs. What's that coming down the track? A mean machine in red and black!

  4. Louisiana State University: LSU's Tiger Stadium is one of the loudest and most intimidating venues in college football, and their tailgates are just as impressive. Fans set up shop in the grassy areas around campus, grilling up Cajun-style food and enjoying live music. The tradition of "Tiger Baiting" involves taunting the opposing team's fans with chants of "Tiger Bait!"Football Tailgates - Revelry | LSU Tailgating

  5. University of Texas: Everything is bigger in Texas, including their tailgates. The Longhorns' game day scene includes a massive RV lot known as "Bevo Boulevard," where fans gather for food, drinks, and games. The "Hook 'em" hand sign and "Texas Fight" song are a staple of any Texas game day.

  6. The Ohio State University: Almost by accident of having so many people and nothing else to do, Ohio State's tailgate is pretty epic. Unless you'd prefer tipping cows or eating corn, might as well crack open a cold one and wonder which SEC team will beat OSU in the playoffs.

No matter where you go, college game day tailgating is an experience like no other. These colleges are just a few examples of the many schools with rich tailgating traditions. So grab your friends, fire up the grill, and get ready for a day full of food, fun, and football!
